Fixed in Mac Screenwriter 6.5.12.70 R13
- CORRECTED RARE BUT ANNOYING UNDO-REDO BUG: NORMALLY, when you UNDO (CMD+Z), you should be able to REDO (SHIFT+CMD+Z), UNLESS you make an edit or move your selection which by design clears those redos. THE BUG: when doing a lot of undos in a row, it was possible to accidentally clear the redos by holding down the CMD+Z or SHIFT+CMD+Z key. This has been corrected.
Also, the number of available undos was supposed to be 500. It was accidentally being set to 99. It is back at 500 again.
Finally, as mentioned before, whenever you make an edit or change the selection the list of REDOable operations is cleared by design (all word processors generally work this way). However, if you do a lot of REDOs to temporarily see how something used to look, it was also to easily click or move your insertion point, and then you would lose the ability to redo and restore those edits.
We have made a third fix that will prevent that accidental loss. When you have done more than 10 UNDO operations in a row, if you attempt to move or click, you will now get this warning:
-
A RARE BUT SIGNIFICANT PASTE-RELATED CRASH FIXED! There was a rare circumstance where cutting or copying a paragraph of dialog and its character name, then pasting it into another paragraph of dialog MIGHT result in a crash. It might also appear to erase the leading portion of the dialog you were pasting into. If you pasted into the very beginning or end of the dialog then no problem would occur. NOTE: this bug was so infrequent that it goes all the way back to 6.0.10.165, so it's a very, very old bug.
-
TIMED BACKUPS ARE NOW PROPERLY DELETED. A bug in an earlier release allowed irrelevant copied of timed backup (.tmb) files to remain undeleted in the user's /Documents/Movie Magic Screenwriter folder. With this release we've restored the expected behavior: after each save, a Timed Backup is deleted and then remade only when the preferred number of minutes have elapsed.
-
A second feature was also not working: Timed Backup (.tmb) files older than one week were supposed to be automatically deleted when you Quit the Screenwriter program. This release restores that feature to be functional again.
-
To reiterate: Timed Backup (.tmb) files are only supposed to be visible for a script that is actively being edited IF there are unsaved changes AND the autosave interval has elapsed. Also, if Screenwriter were to crash, then the most recent Timed Backup will remain visible for up to one week. SO, with this release, you will not be seeing .tmb files accumulating in any folder. (NOTE: Previous Version Backup (".bk") files are an entirely different story: they are intentionally kept after each Save operation).
Please remember to use the CMD+S (File > Save) command to periodically save your document. Timed Backups are a safety net, not the normal process for saving your document.
-
Fixed a bug where using the "deleting previous word" keyboard command while at the end of the document wouldn't delete the last letter of the very last element.
-
Fixed a crash on MacOS Mojave: when selecting "Speak Selection" or "Assign Voices" on older documents that had filenames > 30 characters.
-
Corrected a bug that caused A-page breaks to prematurely halt RTF export.
Fixed in Mac Screenwriter 6.5.7.65 R8
- The installer now deletes any old version of Screenwriter 6.0, so users don't accidentally launch an incorrect version.
- Fixed major crash when running on MacOS 10.14.x (Mojave). Screenwriter would crash when the print job dialog should have been displayed (printing or saving to PDF). This was an Apple-introduced bug but we produced a workaround fix.
- Fixed a problem where the wrong document name was proposed when saving different scripts to PDF during the same launch of the program.
- Compare command no longer aborts if you compare a document that is already open in Screenwriter.
- If a hard disk permissions problem prevented the recording of the user's serial number for display in the splash screen / about box, we now display "Activated -- see registration utility for Serial #" so user doesn't think there's a serious issue.
- Fixed a crash when exporting to a .txt/avid file that occurred when the user had a second line of wrapped scene heading. It will now also properly wrap the scene heading to the next line beneath "INT./EXT" (or whatever the start of the scene heading is). Of course, depending on what purpose you wish to use that .txt file for, that second line of scene heading might get interpreted in some odd way. A better solution would be to extend the right margin of scene headings.
Fixed in Screenwriter 6.5.3.59 R5:
- Fixed Outline Styles Hierarchy bug: Corrected long-standing problem with making changes in the Outline Styles tab of FORMAT > Element Styles, where making almost any change could mess up a complex hierarchy.
- Added feature in the Outline Styles tab of FORMAT > Element Styles, so if you select an outline style and then press the “+” Add Outline Style, the new Outline Style would be inserted immediately beneath the style you selected. Previously, it would get added towards the end, even if there was a selection.
- The Auto-Correct spell-check feature is DEFAULTED TO OFF. This was done so writers wouldn’t accidentally have auto correction happening without realizing the feature was now working again. Also, the default for the maximum letters to be considered for auto-correct has been upped from 10 to 20.
- In 6.5.2.56 R4: Fixed a crash that would happen when SAVING or SAVE AS (or perhaps Save a Copy): when destination didn’t have write privileges.
- In 6.5.2.55 R4: Auto-Correct fixed: Restored functionality to “auto-correct spell-check feature.
Fixed in Screenwriter 6.5.2.54 R4:
- Fixed a MAJOR bug related to macOS 10.13 “High Sierra”, which caused an error alert “FSRenameUnicode” to be displayed when the script document was saved onto a drive formatted with High Sierra’s new Apple File System (APFS).
- Fixed a bug: if the user selected "Automatic by Language" for their spell-check language, that setting was NOT properly restored when re-opening the .mmx file format. This resulted to the spell-check language defaulting back to English. (Thanks, Pico!)
- Fixed a bug in Activation and Registration app that caused it to fail to create a new registration account if the user's locale was Chinese.
- Added new version of Activate and Register Screenwriter app that can be run from the BASH command line. This is only relevant to schools and companies trying to activate a lot of copies of Screenwriter using automated scripting tools.
Fixed in Screenwriter 6.5.1.49 R3:
- Fixed a bug where FDX files generated by Fade In and Highland could not be opened because those programs didn't generate XML tags the way Final Draft does.
- Changed the choices on the Activation and Registration app to be two radio buttons with very clear language describing the choices of creating a NEW account, or adding the serial number to an EXISTING account.
- Corrected a bug when Screenwriter would crash on opening a document if the user had Nuance Dragon Dictate installed, because it adds a "Multilingual" language type, which is missing an Apple parameter. Corrects similar issue with the Finnish language selection "Suomi (Voikko)", a spelling and grammar checker for Finnish.
- Corrected a bug which caused a crash when using the delete forward key when deleting the first character of dialog in an element of dialog that IMMEDIATELY followed another element of dialog with no intervening parenthetical or character name.
