Download Writer's DreamKit - Windows

1. Click the Download link on this page.
2. Once you click on the link, you will be brought to the Write Brothers WeTransfer.com download page.  Click on the DOWNLOAD button to begin the download (WritersDreamKit4-Installer.zip).
   
   If you get an alert asking to permit the download make sure to allow it. 
   
   If you get the following alert window, click on the Advanced button THEN click on the "Continue to register.write-bros.com (unsafe)" link to allow it -- it is SAFE, despite the alert
   
   
3. The file is large and can take a while to download. You can check the progress by using your browser's download status option.
4. Once the download is done, you can find the WritersDreamKit4.0.exe file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded the file).
5. Right-click on the installer -- WritersDreamKit4.0.exe -- and choose Run As Administrator. This ensures Writer's DreamKit has the proper Windows read and write permissions. 
   
   If the installer appears to stall (progress bar stops moving around 30% to 60%), the issue is that Windows 10 has opened an alert BEHIND the main window, asking if it's OK to install the voices files.  Sometimes you can even see the very bottom of that window at the bottom of the main installer window.  Solution is simple: just MOVE the main installer window to the side so you can see that alert window, and then confirm that it's OK to install, and the installation process will resume.  If you've waited so long that the Installer generates errors, you will need to run the installer again.
6. Follow the on-screen steps to install.
7. Right click on the WritersDreamKit installer application and choose Run as Administrator (this is VERY important!).
8. Follow the on-screen steps to complete the installation.
9. Right click on the Writer's DreamKit 4.0 shortcut icon on your desktop.
10. Choose Properties.
11. Click on the Compatibility tab.
12. In the "Privilege Level" section, check the box labeled Run this program as an Administrator.
13. Click OK.  The program should now run normally.

Windows XP

1. Click on the Download button on this page.
2. If prompted to Run/Open or Save, choose Run.* After the program has downloaded, the installation will automatically begin.
3. Follow the on-screen steps to install the software.

*You may wish to choose Save if you want to have the installer somewhere on your hard drive for safe keeping. If using Firefox, click Save File and then double-click the file manually after it is done downloading.

Writer's DreamKit Story Wizard **

The Writer's DreamKit Story Wizard is a free add-on to Writer's DreamKit 4 for Windows. It allows easier access to the Structure Templates, Examples and your story files. The full version of Writer's DreamKit 4.0 must already be installed in order to install the Story Wizard.

1. Click on the Download Story Wizard button to start the download.
2. If prompted to Run/Open or Save, choose *Run. Once the Story Wizard is finish downloading, the installation will begin automatically.
3. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
4. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.

A new Writer's DreamKit Story Wizard 2.0 icon will appear on your Desktop. Double click the new icon to use the Story Wizard.

*You may wish to choose Save if you want to have the installer somewhere on your hard drive for safe keeping. If using Firefox, click Save File and then double-click the file manually after it is done downloading.

** WINDOWS 10 USERS:  Some Windows 10 user's systems appear to be incompatible with the Story Wizard and do not install properly. Fortunately, there is a simple solution built into Writer's DreamKit to access the structure templates. The structure templates are installed when Writer's DreamKit is installed. If you want to use the story templates:

• Use the File>New Document menu command and navigate to the templates, which are located on your computer in the following location:

Computer > C: > Program Files (x86) > Write Brothers, Inc. > Writer's DreamKit > Structure Templates

• Select one of the available structure templates:
  
  • Novel Template.dsf
  • Screenplay Template.dsf
  • Short Story.dsf
• Press OK and a new document based on the template of your choice is created.
