For a more detailed article on locating your screenplay documents, please click here for Windows, or here for Macintosh.
To find a file in Windows:
- Click on Start > Search. (Select "Files and Folders" if you are on Windows XP.)
- Type in all or part of the file name.
In Windows Vista, the search will begin automatically. In Windows XP, click the Search button to begin.
NOTE: If you want to search for all Screenwriter documents, type in the following for the file name:
*.mmsw – will find all Screenwriter 6 documents
*.scw – will find all Screenwriter 2000/4.x documents
*.stw – will find all ScriptThing documents
To find a file on Macintosh:
OS 10.4 (Tiger) or later
- Click on the Spotlight (magnifying glass) in the upper-right corner of your screen.
- Type in all or part of the file name.
Alternatively, you can search for all Screenwriter Scripts/Documents. Make sure you are in the Finder and click File > Find. Set the search so that it looks for items in the location "Everywhere" where Kind is Other > Screenwriter Script/Document.
OS 10.3 (Panther) or earlier
- Make sure you are in the Finder.
- Click on File > Find.
- Set the search so that searches in "Everywhere".
- Search for items whose "Name contains ".
To search for all Screenwriter 6 documents, search for items whose "Extension is MMSW". Unfortunately, Screenwriter 2000/4.x documents on Mac don't have extensions unless they were saved on the Windows version first. In that case, search for items whose "Extension is SCW".
