Movie Magic Screenwriter has been around a long time, and across the many versions on different operating system platforms there have been many file formats.
The table below is highly detailed, however in general here are some rules that apply to modern versions of Movie Magic Screenwriter 6.0 through 6.5:
- All Mac and Windows versions of Screenwriter 6.x (including Mac 6.5) can compatibly exchange .mmsw documents.
- Only Mac Screenwriter 6.3 and 6.5 can read and write Screenwriter XML (.mmx) file format.
- Only Screenwriter 6.3 and 6.5 can import Final Draft .fdx format; only Screenwriter 6.5 can export Final Draft .fdx format.
NOTE: Adobe Acrobat PDF files are not file-compatible with Screenwriter and therefore cannot be opened directly by the Screenwriter software, though Screenwriter can export to the PDF format.
