Here is a way to create a separate title page and then combine it with the PDF of your script on MacOS. The reason you may want to do this is if you want to do fancy formatting or add images to your title page because you find Screenwriter's title page publisher too limiting.
NOTE: These directions of for using the Apple Preview app to combine the PDF files but you can do the same thing with Adobe Acrobat or other PDF viewer/editor apps.
TO CREATE THE TITLE PAGE
The best way to create the title page is to do so in Word or Pages and then print the title page to a PDF.
- Create your title page in Word or Pages to look the way you want it.
- Save your title page file in case you need to make changes to it later.
- While still in the word processing program, use the File > Print menu command
- Use the macOS native "Save as PDF…" option (or Previewing then printing to PDF) located in the lower left corner of the Print window under the PDF menu icon.
- Give the title page a unique name and make sure you note WHERE you save the title page on your computer, such as the desktop, because you'll need to locate it later
- Quit out of the word processing program
TO CREATE THE PDF OF YOUR SCRIPT
- Open you script in Screenwriter
- Use the File>Print menu command
- Make sure the "Print Title Page" option is UN-checked
- Click on the Preview button to open a PDF version of the script in the Preview app
- While in the Preview app, use the File>Save menu command and save the PDF version of your script to a unique name. I recommend saving it in the same location as the title page you created earlier so that it's easy to merge them together
- Click on the View>Thumbnails menu command to display thumbnail images of your script pages on the left side of the window
- Click on the page one thumbnail in the thumbnails to select it -- it's important to do this because this is where you will insert your title page
TO COMBINE THE TITLE PAGE PDF WITH THE SCRIPT PDF DOCUMENT
- While in the Preview app with the PDF of your script open, use the File>Open menu command and open the PDF version of your title page
- Click on the View>Thumbnails menu command to display thumbnail images of your title page on the left side of the window
- Move your Title page window to the left so that you can see both the thumbnail of the title page and the thumbnails of the script. I should look something like this:
- Click on the title page thumbnail and drag it above the first page of the script thumbnails. You'll notice that the script thumbnails will move down to accommodate the new page
- Once the title page thumbnail is above page one of the script, release your drag and a copy of the title page is inserted into your script. NOTE: Don't worry if you accidentally inserted the title page below page one -- you can drag the title page above it, or page one below the title page by clicking and dragging the thumbnails in the thumbnail display
- Click on the script document thumbnails to bring it to the front
- Save your script document to save it with the title
- Close the Preview app and you're done
