These instructions should work for MacOS Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey, and Sonoma, and potentially any newer version of MacOS.
If some issue causes Screenwriter to crash, we need to get the crash log. All of your recent crash logs can be accessed inside Apple's Console app.
The Console app can be run by doing ONE of the following:
- Open the Console app directly. Go to the Finder and press SHIFT+COMMAND+U to open the /Applications/Utilities folder and double-click on the Console app, OR...
- Search for "Console" using the Mac's Spotlight search feature. Press COMMAND+SPACE to open Spotlight or click on the Spotlight search icon (looks like a magnifying glass) in the upper right menu bar of your Mac, then type "Console" and hit RETURN.
Once you open the Console app, you'll see two columns. In the left column, select the Crash Reports folder. This will display a list in the upper part of the second column of all of the recent crash logs for Movie Magic Screenwriter (or Dramatica Story Expert):
Select the crash log with Screenwriter's name and the relevant date. Then do one of the following:
- If you have a specific email address, use the Share icon at the top of the Console window to send the crash log as an attachment to the desired email address.
- RIGHT-CLICK on the crash log filename, and select the "Reveal in Finder" menu item. Now you can drag the crash log file into an email message response to your support ticket.
- Once you've clicked on the crash log filename in the second column, you will see the details of that crash log appear in the area beneath your selection. You can click in that area, then do a Select All (CMD+A) and Copy (CMD+C), then Paste (CMD+V) into an email message response to your support ticket.
