Every once in a while, Screenwriter does not have permissions to write (save) to your computer. The usual solution is to explicitly give Screenwriter permissions to write to your computer by following the steps in this FAQ:

Sometimes Screenwriter still doesn't have permission to write to your hard disk even after explicitly granting permissions to it. The solution for that is to do the following:
STEP 1: Remove permissions -- if they are set -- by referencing the following FAQ:
To Remove permissions for Screenwriter:
- Open the Systems Requirements app
- Click on the Security & Privacy icon
- Click on the Security tab
- Scroll down and click on the Full Disk Access topic
- If your preferences are locked, click on the lock icon in the lower left of the window -- you will be asked to supply your computer's password to unlock the preferences
- Click on the Screenwriter.app in the list
- Click on the "-" icon below the list to remove it
- Click on the Files and Folders topic in the list on the left
- Click on the Screenwriter.app in the list
- Click on the "-" icon below the list to remove it
- Quit out of the Systems Requirements app
STEP 2: Reinstall the software from the following FAQ through Step 15 -- do not re-activate:

STEP 3: ADD permissions per this permissions FAQ.

That usually does the trick.
